Create a manual backup
Create and verify an encrypted local restore point now.
When to use it7 sections
Create a manual encrypted restore point before a migration, major setup change, or other operation where you need a recoverable local copy.
When to use it
Use this guide when you need a verified backup immediately rather than waiting for an automatic schedule.
Before you begin
- Confirm that the correct local workspace is open and that active work is saved.
- Choose a local destination with enough space and write permission. Keep the destination separate from the workspace when possible.
- Prepare a password you can retain securely. Paydae cannot recover a forgotten backup password.
Steps
- Open the backup screen
Open Workspace Backup and select Create Backup.
- Start a manual backup
Review the displayed workspace scope and select Create backup now.
- Choose the file and password
Under Destination file, choose a local
.paydaebakpath or Use suggested path. If a protected smart password is available, choose Use saved smart password or Enter different password. Otherwise enter and confirm a new backup password. - Wait for verification
Keep Paydae open while it creates a clean database snapshot, checks integrity, builds the manifest and hash, encrypts the archive, and commits the
.paydaebakfile. - Inspect the restore point
Wait for Backup created successfully. Confirm the filename, time, size, and destination. In Backup restore points, expand File details to check the local path and verification status; use Restore only when you intend to enter the restore review.
What to check
The backup should finish as a complete encrypted .paydaebak file, not a temporary or partial file. The package contains only the allowlisted workspace data for that version; it does not transfer licence activation, local accounts, active sessions, device state, update staging, backup settings/activity, or the protected smart-password secret.
What happens next
Store the file and password under your organisation’s approved retention and access controls. To recover or move the workspace, use Restore a workspace; do not open or edit the archive manually.
Common problems
Destination is not writable
choose a local folder you control, check free space and permissions, then retry.
Password is rejected or does not match
enter the same password twice and meet the strength requirement shown by the dialog.
Creation fails integrity checks
keep the failure details, resolve any displayed workspace issue, and retry after the app is stable.
The file is missing after success
check the displayed destination and filename; do not treat an unverified path as a backup.
You forgot the password
Paydae cannot recover it. Look for the securely retained customer copy of the password or create a new manual backup while the workspace is available.
Bureau and single-organisation notes
The backup covers the local workspace, not an individual export for one organisation. In a Bureau workspace, document the organisation context separately if your retention procedure needs client-level evidence.
