Use an encrypted local restore point to move workspace business data to a new Paydae Desktop installation. Backup restore does not move licence activation, device identity, local accounts, active sessions, or protected smart-password secrets.

When to use it

Use this guide when the new device is ready for a separate licence activation and you need to bring over the old local workspace data.

Before you begin

  • On the old computer, confirm the correct workspace and create a fresh manual backup.
  • Retain the .paydaebak file and its password through a customer-controlled transfer. Do not put the password in the file name or an unapproved support channel.
  • Have the licence details or approved activation path ready for the new device.

Steps

  1. Create and verify a fresh backup

Finish or pause work on the old computer and verify the backup filename, time, size, and destination.

  2. Install Paydae on the new computer

Install Paydae Desktop on the new computer. During onboarding, choose Restore Workspace From Backup. Follow the displayed local licence, owner, and recovery prerequisites; their order depends on the installation’s state.

  3. Unlock and review the backup

Select the copied .paydaebak file and enter its password. Select Unlock and review, then check the prepared workspace, contents, compatibility, and backup time.

  4. Complete prerequisites and confirm

Complete any prompted prerequisites, return to the prepared restore, and select Confirm and restore. If the new installation already contains a workspace, first configure a protected smart password, choose a safety backup destination, acknowledge replacement, and select Confirm and replace workspace.

  5. Wait for verification

Keep the app open while the host completes and verifies the restore. Sign in or complete local owner setup when prompted; accounts from the backup are not imported.

  6. Check the new workspace

Check payroll history, settings, documents, and the organisation context before retiring the old installation or its backup.

What to check

The new device should have the intended workspace business data while retaining its own licence/device/local-account state. Automatic backup settings and protected secrets are installation-specific; configure them again on the new device and create a fresh manual point.

Common problems

Activation is unavailable

use the normal online/offline licence support path; backup restore cannot activate a device.

Password is rejected

use the password from the old backup process; it is not transferred with the file.

Workspace is Not compatible

follow the compatibility message and do not force a restore.

Expected users or sessions are absent

this is expected; local accounts, passwords, recovery codes, and active sessions are not workspace payload.

Documents differ

verify the approved persistent document store for the installed version and retain the old local export separately if your procedure requires it.

Bureau and single-organisation notes

The move transfers the whole local workspace, not one Bureau client. Verify the selected organisation and client records on the new device before processing payroll.
